Mats for gymnastics are used for safety and practicing new
skills. Usually a piece or pieces of foam covered in leather are given the
shape to form the desired product. Foam density ranges from firm to soft based
on the product’s needs and its target market. For instance, gymnastic floor
mats are designed to be a bit firm so that when a person sits on it they do not
feel exhausted but still get the firmness of a floor. Crash mats are soft
because they are designed to protect when a person falls, being firm can be
hurtful which goes against its purpose.
Similarly the gymnastics foam wedge is relatively
firm. It is designed to make you rollover without breaking your speed and
without hurting. The wedge shaped foam is to practice rolling which is a very
important factor for a gymnast. Professional gymnasts have the ability to spin
in mid air but that only happens when you’ve mastered the basics and have
advanced to master levels. The first step is to practice on the cheese mat
(another popular name for the wedge mat). To spark the interest of the sport in
children, give it to them and see how excited they will be to roll on it.
You start from the higher end and roll down to the bottom.
As the young ones start running towards it enthusiastically, they will
sometimes bump into it. Fear not because it is made of foam so all that could
happen is the incline wedge to hop a few inches forward because of the force. It
is completely safe to give to your children to play and practice because sooner
or later, they would be joining the gymnastics at school and if they are
familiar with the equipment, they would feel much elated before their
classmates and you will feel thankful for it.
When the kids have learnt how to use the gymnastics incline wedge perfectly thru a forward spin, now is the time to give them
advanced training. Ask them to do a side spin and then some more complex spins.
Giving them challenges would keep their interest aroused and will keep them
busy in a healthy activity. Besides the fun factor, gymnastics is a great way
to keep your body in shape. The physical movements require a certain rhythm
which can be mastered through practice. The more the practice, the more
calories burnt making you and your kids get better, fitter and healthier.
